Chesapeake Heritage Conservancy

Chesapeake Heritage Conservancy, Inc is a private, 501(c)3 non-profit corporation, established in 1994 through the gift of the Martha Lewis skipjack.

Chesapeake Heritage was established to preserve the Skipjack Martha Lewis using her as an environmental education platform, preserve the cultural tradition of dredging for oysters, educate others as to the preservation of the Chesapeake Bay and tributaries and to expand as needed to accomplish these tasks as well as those that in the future will enhance our mission.

CHC relies on revenue generating programs, donations, budget allocations from City of Havre de Grace and Harford County, and corporate sponsorships to operate and maintain the Martha Lewis and provide educational opportunities..  Additional critical support comes from our staff, board of trustees, and dedicated volunteers.

Chesapeake Heritage Conservancy, Inc is governed by a Board of Trustees along with an Executive Director. The Skipjack Martha Lewis is operated by a professional licensed Captain with a well trained volunteer crew. The Martha Lewis maintains a U S Coast Guard Certificate of Inspection (COI) in order to ensure the safety of our crews and passengers.
