SML Volunteer-Crew Training Outline

There are many ways individuals can contribute their time and talent to the operation of Skipjack Martha Lewis. Each activity requires different skills and different levels of understanding and competence in the operations of CHC.

CHC volunteers and sailing crew members must complete training modules that pertain to their level of involvement. These levels include:

1. Administrative assistance and office work (AD)
2. Event planning (EV)
3. Educational program development (ED)
4. Vessel maintenance and restoration work (MR)
5. Sailing crew (SC)

Training modules: (to be developed)

Mission and background of CHC — (AD, EV, ED, MR, SC)
History and work of Skipjacks in general and Martha Lewis in particular — (AD, EV, ED, MR, SC)
Docent training — general history-culture-environment-economics of Upper Bay — (AD, EV, ED, SC)
Skipjack design and features — (ED, MR, SC)

Development of these modules should be accomplished during Q2-Q3 of 2025. Some of the content of each module will be adapted from training materials graciously shared by Skipjack Nathan of Dorchester in Cambridge, MD. The syllabus/outline for each of the CHC modules will be posted here as they are completed.
